Knee pain is a commonly occurring problem in people of all ages. Its mostly caused by injury, aging, infections, gout, arthritis, and heavy stress on the knee.

Surgical repair, knee braces, and physical therapy are required to relieve knee pain. Home remedies also helpful in knee pain otherwise they may be severe.

Signs and symptoms

Following signs and symptoms are including:

  • Stiffness and swelling
  • Warmth to the touch and redness
  • Instability or weakness
  • Crunching or popping noises

Diseases or physical disorders that cause knee pain are following:

Knee pain may be caused by mechanical problems, types of arthritis, injuries, and other problems.

Mechanical problems

Dislocated kneecap

Types of arthritis

It is a complex and common form of arthritis. It’s characterized by expected, redness, swelling, severe attacks of pain, and tenderness of joints, mostly occur in the enormous toe.

Degenerative arthritis or Osteoarthritis

It is the most common form of arthritis, affecting thousands of people all over the world. It’s a wear-and- tear condition that occurs when the cartilage in knee degrade with use and age. The disorder mostly affected the joints of knees, hands, spine and hips

Rheumatoid arthritis

A severe inflammatory or autoimmune disorder occurs when the body’s tissue is mistakenly attacked by your own immune system. It can affect the lining of the joint cause severe swelling and result in joint deformity and bone erosion.

Septic arthritis

  • A painful joint infection occurs through germs that travel the blood from one part of the body to another part. It also occurs when a penetrating injury like trauma or animal bite, transfer germs directly into the joint. Adults and infants are more susceptible to septic arthritis. People with artificial joints are also affected by septic arthritis. Shoulders, hips, and other joints can be affected by septic arthritis but knees are most commonly affected. Cartilage and bone within the joint are damaged quickly and severely by infection.

Arthritis forms that cause stiffness, redness, tenderness, swelling, and warmth of some joints. At a time, one or more joints are affected by pseudogout. Wrist or knee are commonly affected. Elbows, hips, shoulders, finger joints, toes, or ankles are also less affected by pseudogout


Knee injury can effect any of the fluid-filled sacs or tendons, ligaments that cover the knee joint , cartilage, bone and ligaments.

Knee bones, including patella (kneecap), can be broken during falls or vehicle collisions, pressure on the bone. Osteoporosis (weakened bone) having people can face the fracture by walking or stepping wrong

ACL injury:

Anterior cruciate ligament injury –one of four ligaments that connects the shinbone to the thighbone. People who play soccer, basketball, or other sports are partially affected by ACL in which sudden changes in direction occur

Knee bursitis

Inflammation causing injuries in bursae, the small fluid sacs that cover the outside of the knee joint so that ligaments and tendons smoothly glide over the joint.

Patellar tendonitis

An injury to the tendon that connect patella to shin bone.Also known as jumper’s knee.

Torn meniscus

A C-shaped piece of rubbery, tough cartilage (meniscus) that performs like a shock absorber among thighbone and shinbone. If someone suddenly twisted his knee while putting heavy weight on it, it can be torn.

Other problems

A general term “patellofemoral pain syndrome” that refers to pain feeling between patella and femur (underlying thighbone).

Most commonly arising in athletes: in older adults, who develop a condition resulting in arthritis of kneecap; and in young adults, especially that have a maltracking of kneecap

Some factors that increase the risk of knee pain, including

Lack of muscle strength or flexibility:

Knee injuries are also increased by less muscle flexibility or strength. Muscle flexibility help in achieving full direction of motion and strong muscle help in protecting and stabilizing joints.


Being obese or heavy weights increases the stress on knee joints, even during walking, running, jumping, and going up and downstairs. It also puts at the problem of osteoarthritis by promoting the breakage of joint cartilage.

Certain occupations or sports:

Some sports have greater stress on the knees than do others. Running, alpine skiing, basketball jumps and pivots, and jogging increase the stress on the knee joint or risk of injury. Jobs that require repetitive stress on knees like farming or construction increase the risk of injury.

Previous injury

A person having a previous knee injury seems that they have injured their knee again.


All knee injuries are not serious. But some knee pains and medical conditions liked generative arthritis can lead to increased joint pain, joint disability, and damage if not completely treated. Having knee pain, even less pain, seems that have the same pain in the future.

Get strong, stay flexible

Weak muscles are an arising problem in knee injuries, it will benefit from building hamstrings and quadriceps which support the knees. Stability and balance training helps the muscles surrounding the knees work together more effectively. And hard muscles also can share to injury, flexibility is important.

Be smart about exercise

If someone has recurring injuries or chronic knee pain, osteoarthritis, it may change the way of exercise. Walking, running, jogging and sport inappropriate ways impact the curing or away from knee pain. Sometimes high impact activities will provide relief in injuries
